WoW Character Name Checker

See whether a World of Warcraft character name is free on any Retail realm before you roll. Paste up to 500 names; each comes back as taken, available, or could not verify, with the reason.

Names of inactive characters may show as available. Blizzard may still block some names from being claimed.

How does it work?

Pick a region and realm, then paste up to 500 character names, one per line. Each is checked against Blizzard's Profile API for that realm. Because Blizzard only reports characters that have logged in recently, this tool reliably tells you a name is taken — but a name showing as available may still be held by an inactive or hidden character. Always confirm on the character-create screen before committing.

Results are for the selected realm only. Many realm names exist in more than one region — Area 52, for instance, is both an Americas and a Europe realm — so check the region is right before trusting a result.

A name only reaches Available when Blizzard positively confirms it has no character by that name. If a check fails for any reason — a rate limit, a timeout, a server error — the name goes to Couldn't verify instead, and you can just scan it again. We would rather tell you we don't know than guess wrong in the direction that sends you to a name someone else already has.
